A Cesarean section, or c-section, is a common procedure in small animal veterinary medicine. The goal of a c-section is to deliver healthy, vigorous pups with rapid return to consciousness for the dam. Various risk factors for maternal mortality and neonatal mortality and vigor have been identified and should influence the perioperative and anesthetic management of patients undergoing c-sections.
